Sunday May 15, 2022, the members of the “Club des Automobiles Anciennes de l'Indre” (The Indre department old automobiles club) gathered at La Martinerie to start their quarterly rally.
Once more, he who is absent is always wrong. The Saints Patrons day took place in a very good atmosphere.
A day of remembrance, to remember, all together, our deceased members, these who are currently hospitalized or sufferings at home.
At the president’s request, about fifteen volunteers from “Les Amis de La Martinerie” showed up at “la maison départementale de la mémoire militaire” for the traditional spring cleaning.
2nd year student in LEA (Foreign Languages), Natalie VIOT will be at “les Amis de La Martinerie” from May 30 to June 17, 2022 as part of one of the immersion courses planned in her school curriculum
Her mission:
Disappointed because they were not able to save a Quonset hut (A lightweight prefabricated structure occupied by American troops during the “tent city” period) due to a storm, volunteers from our association recovered several parts of the structure and decided to rebuild a hut to regroup objects from the American era.
Monday, April 11, adherents of the ANOCR 36 (Association Nationale des Officiers de Carrière en Retraite) visited “Les Amis de La Martinerie”.
Welcomed at 10:30 am by Jean-Jacques and Michel, our visitors regretted not having had enough time to discover all the rooms and promised to return.
At the request of the “Association de Restauration de Véhicules Militaires du Centre” (ARVMC), “les Amis de La Martinerie” had a booth at their annual military collector’s show.
The French National Shooting Sports Centre (CNTS) is back in business with the middle school and high school shooting sports French championship (as part of the UNSS program). A team of volunteers from “Les Amis de La Martinerie” was present from Tuesday, March 29th to Friday, April 1st managing the armory and assisting the competing teams.
On Wednesday, April 30, “les Amis de La Martinerie” welcomed Colonel Fabrice Beurois, commander of the “12ème Base de Soutien du Matériel” along with part of his team.
In June, the "Rêves de Gosse" association will be at the Châteauroux-Déols airport allowing 100 “extraordinary” kids (sick or handicapped) and 50 “ordinary” kids to fly for the first time at the Marcel Dassault airport.
On Thursday, March 24th, 2022, Mathieu Moreaux, mayor of Chaillac and Gérard Mayaud, former mayor of Chaillac, were at “les Amis de La Martinerie” to officialize the donation of the 1870-1871 Franco-Prussian war veterans’ flag from the Chaillac canton.
The departmental association of the “Société Nationale d’Entraide des Médaillés Militaires” (The Indre branch of a larger veteran association) used one of conference room for its 2022 general assembly on Thursday, March 17th.
While she already donated a SUMB truck few years ago, Laurence Rolland, CEO of the RBH company from Thenay, near Argenton sur Creuse, gave us, this time, a TRM 2000 to complete our collection of tactical vehicles.
It is during the “Comité de l’Indre des Médaillés de la Jeunesse, des Sports et de l’Engagement Associatif” (CDMJSEA) general assembly that Frédéric Niemiez, Jean-Pierre Petiot and Xavier Carpentier, three volunteers from our association, received a congratulation letter from Mrs. Bénédicte Cartelier, Issoudun subprefect, representing Mr Stéphane Bredin, the Indre prefect, in the presence of Marc Fleuret, president of the departmental council, of Florence Petipez and Nolwen Fortuit, deputies of the departmental council, of Danièle Dupré-Ségot, Le Poinçonnet mayor, and Guy Chambrier, departmental president of the FNMJSEA medalists.
On Wednesday, February 9, 2022, we welcomed Marie-Sylvie BEUZARD, president of the ACRDI (les Amis du Centre de Mémoire de la Résistance et de la Déportation de l’Indre), Jean MOREAU, president of the CURDI (Comité d’Union pour la Mémoire de la Résistance et de la Déportation de l’Indre), Georges and Muguette Lasserre, respectively, president and member of the ANACR (Association Nationale des Anciens Combattants de la Résistance)..
Due to changes in the location, the dates, the extra precautions and limitations as a consequence of the pandemic, the organization of this event was a real obstacle course. First of all, thank you very much to Michel Lenglet, mayor of the city of Montierchaume, for providing the large room of the “foyer rural” for this event and thank you to Francine, the little fairy, who made it happen.
On Saturday, January 5th, 2022, the veterans of the Foreign legion of the Indre department attended their annual general assembly at “Les Amis de La Martinerie”.
Wednesday, January 5th, the members of our association working on “Les Amis de La Martinerie”’s premises, were pleasantly surprised to see Frédéric JOSEPH, professional baker from Chézal-Benoit (18), member of our association, who came with a giant king cake for all of them.

Wednesday, December 22nd, Mrs. Irène Fauguet, and her daughter were at “les Amis de La Martinerie” to sign all the documents finalizing the donation of a Renault R 2087 N. This donation was done to honor her late husband’s last wishes, who wanted to have his truck restored by our association and displayed along other vehicles in our collection.
On Wednesday, December 1st, we received the visit of Mrs. Monique Sicault, daughter of Adjutant Louis Laude, who came to give us his brother’s decorations, as a supplement to the uniforms we received from Yvette Langlois, Louis Laude’s second daughter.
A gratifying story, this November: A phone call at the president’s, a visit with Philippe, a team from ARVMC for the transport, and a R 2087 N truck ends up at “les Amis de La Martinerie”.
At the request of Jean-Paul Tissier, their president, 47 members of the “Association Nationale des Retraités” (Retirees National Association) of the Indre department, came over to La Martinerie for a double visit: “La maison départementale de la mémoire militaire” and the “Centre National de Tir Sportif” (The National Shooting Center).
On Wednesday, October 6th, we welcomed a dozen of visitors for the last visit of the year, as part of the "Secrets de Fabrique" operation.
On Saturday, October 20, 2021, responding to the invitation made by the president of “Les Amis de La Martinerie” during the donation ceremony of the 1830s rifles, Michel Lenglet, mayor of Montierchaume, along with representatives of the city council, came to visit “La maison départementale de la mémoire militaire” on the “La Martinerie” base.
On Monday, October 11, 2021, about 25 members of the Rotary club met at “La Martinerie” for their monthly assembly and to visit “La maison départementale de la mémoire militaire”.
On Friday, September 24th, 2021, was inaugurated an 85 acres solar park in the south zone.
This park was built and will be managed by BayWa r.e.
Saturday October 2nd, 2021, 40 years after their enlistment, seventeen EVSO (Engagé Volontaire Sous-Officier – commissioned officers trainees) from the Adjudant-Chef CAZAUX class, FRINGANT section (“The whites”) met at “les Amis de La Martinerie” for a short reunion, in presence of their former section commander, Captain Luc Fringant, now Prince Albert of Monaco’s first aide-de-camp, and their former unit commander, Captain Jean-Jacques Bérenguier.
At the request of Jean-Michel Lavaud, delegate of the “Le Souvenir Napoléonien” association, “les Amis de la Martinerie” hosted a booth at the Napoleonic Bivouac on Saturday October 2nd and Sunday October 3rd, 2021.
February 2018, Didier Patureau de Mirand asked us to keep the stele commemorating the sacrifice of his uncle, captain Raoul Patureau-Mirand, who was killed in air combat over la Charité sur Loire, and we gladly accepted his proposition.
After closing their association’s bank accounts, Mrs. Lavenu, President, Mrs Chamard, CFO, along with Yves Chambon, member of the association, handed over to “Les Amis de La Martinerie”, a check corresponding to the AECBA’s assets at the time of the dissolution.
If only few visitors came on Saturday (Sorry Marie and Michel but the photographer was not present), several small groups showed up on Sunday for the 2021 “journées du patrimoine” (2021 Heritage Days).
The new president of the Fresno-Châteauroux sister cities committee, Mrs. Georgine Sullivan, daughter of a US Air Force colonel, took some time to visit “la maison départementale de la mémoire militaire” on the La Martinerie site, during her stay in Châteauroux.
Sponsor of one of “la maison departementale” rooms on the la Martinerie site, the “Le Magenta” association, regroups all the veterans and friends of the 90th Infantry Regiment (90ème RI), the historical regiment of our department.
Long time partners of “les Amis de La Martinerie”, Mr and Ms. PICOTY, CEOs of the transport company TPO, choose our premises for a medal ceremony honoring several of their employees, including one who had 40 years of service within their company (Actually, 43 years as of today, due to delays related to the recent lockdowns).
Created in 2008 by Michel Blanchandin, former IT employee, the goal of the AECBA was to maintain contacts between the former civilian employees on the US base (Anciens Employés Civils de la Base Américaine) of La Martinerie-Déols between 1951 and 1967.
Scheduled more than a year ago and postponed because of restrictions due to COVID, the visit of the association “Nouvel Age BULL” of retirees from the BULL company (now ATOS) took place Tuesday, September 7th AM.

Always looking for documents and items about “La Martinerie”, a delegation from our association, Daniel, Jean-Jacques, Martial, Philippe and Roland, went to the “Musée du Matériel et de la Maintenance” to consult, record and photograph various documents from the museum archives about CISM and ESMAT.
The association’s annual “garden party” was held on Saturday, August 28th, in the Saint-Août outdoor hall, thanks to Mr Lambilliotte, city Mayor and the Saint-Août city council.
At the request of the president of the members of the “Légion d’honneur” society of Châteauroux, “les Amis de La Martinerie" hosted on Tuesday, august 17th, the 100th birthday of Joseph Bayle, knight of the “Légion d’honneur”.
Passionate about the history associated with the presence of Americans in the Indre department, Samuel EXLEY, director of the local school "Les Trobadors", has created a unique treasure hunt in English, that brings to light the various places frequented by the Americans around Châteauroux and the “La Martinerie” base.
At the invitation of the “Les Amis de La Martinerie”’s President, Mr François SCHMITT, responsible of the youth, sports, community life and city politics services, and the “Service National Universel**” departmental program visited our premises on Wednesday, July 28th, 2021.
It is with great pleasure that Jean-Jacques Bérenguier, president of "les Amis de La Martinerie", welcomed Françoise Lavenu, president of the AECBA (Association of Former Civilian Employees of the American Base) and Jean-François Delinot, owner of the photographic rights of the photos taken by the eponymous studio during the American presence in the Indre department.
It is at the request of Christian Retailleau, president of the UNC of Saint Maur, that "les Amis de La Martinerie" welcomed 37 of the 145 members of the UNC (National Union of Combatants) of Saint Maur (one of the most important section of the department), on Saturday July 17 morning for a visit of the departmental house of the military memory on the site of La Martinerie.
Official painter of the Army, and member of “les Amis de La Martinerie”, Olivier Jarraud decided to offer us one of his watercolors entitled "Garde d’honneur (Guard of honor) de Châteauroux.
This guard was placed at the entrance of the office of the association to ensure the security.
Scheduled a while ago, the visit of Mr Stéphane Bredin, prefect of the Indre department, finally occurred on Tuesday, July 6th 2021.
Pleasantly surprised by the size of our building, the quantity and the quality of the items displayed in the different showrooms, Mr Bredin acknowledged the work and commitment of our association’s volunteers to the creation of such a unique place of remembrance in our department.
“Les Amis de La Martinerie” are now partners on a project initiated by Sheila Witherington, moderator of the Facebook page "Américans love Châteauroux-Déols", and Samuel Exley, founder and director of "Les Trobadors", a school based in Argenton-sur-Creuse, with branches in both Le Blanc and Châteauroux.

A straightforward Patrons Saint’s day with a fair attendance despite numerous people apologizing, via email or on the phone, for not being able to attend. An overall warm and convivial event.
A thought for all of our adherents who passed away this year and for these who are suffering either at home or at the hospital.
In accordance with governmental safety guidelines, “les Amis de La Martinerie welcomed their first group of visitors as part of operation “Secrets de fabrique / Trade secrets”, event initiated by the “Agence d’Attractivité de L’Indre”. Two more visits are scheduled for Wednesday August, 25th and Wednesday October 6th from 2:30PM to 4:30PM.
At our invitation, Mr Jean-Paul Obéllianne, “Directeur Académique des Services de l’Education Nationale” (DASEN, the local representative of the Secretary of Education) came to visit “La maison départementale de la mémoire militaire” on the “La Martinerie” site to learn more about our project of hosting middle school students in our association; a program already validated by his predecessor and experienced by Laurent Renaudet, a social studies teacher at the Beaulieu Middle School of Châteauroux.
Staying In Châteauroux from May 18th - 21st , 2021, the interns of the 222nd session of the ’Institut des Hautes Etudes de Défense Nationale (IHEDN - Institute of Advanced Studies in National Defence) visited “les Amis de La Martinerie” on Thursday, May 20th.
On Monday, Mai 10th, 2021, the President and Roland de Vassoigne welcomed Mr Marcel Chatain in the Saint-Août town hall, to sign, in presence of Patrick Lambilliotte mayor of Saint-Août and member of “Les Amis de La Martinerie”, the covenant related to the donation of the flag of the deported workers from the city of Neuvy-Pailloux.
After reading, on the Friday, April 30th edition of “La Nouvelle République” (A local newspaper), about the donation of several weapons to our association by the city of Montierchaume, a lady from Issoudun decided to donate hers.
As a new resident of the Indre Department, the director of the Department’s archives services, Mme Lucie Dorsy visited “Les Amis de La Martinerie” ‘s premises on Wednesday, April 28th 2021.
Discovered during the renovation of the city hall, this venerable flag from a local veteran’s association was handed over to us on Wednesday April 28th, 2021 by Mr Marc Descouraux, Mayor of Etrechet.
At the invitation of Mr Michel LENGLET, Mayor of Montierchaume, the president of “Les Amis de La Martinerie“ ended up in the Montierchaume city hall to sign a peculiar donation document.
With the approval of the city council, the Mayor of Montierchaume donated 4 riffles which were previously displayed on the walls of the city hall.

Since june 30, 2012, and after the dissolution of the 517th Train Regiment, the military vocation of the site La Martinerie as ceased.
To remember and do not forget that presence, 1915/2012, a small group of ancient people of the site La Martinerie decided to envolved themself, in order to perpetuate the memory of those, civilian and military, french, american (carrier or called, active or reserve) who served on the base, as far as their supporters.
President of the Agglomeration Community of Châteauroux (CAC) and members of the community council have agreed to make available to us on 20 february 2014 building 001 (the workers masters) and 002 (old boiler) to permit the creation of a memorial on this site. On Friday, october 17 2014, we met Gil Averous, president of this CAC and mayor of Châteauroux, in the presence of Michel Blondeau, mayor of Déols, in front of about 200 members and friends and more or less 20 flags to sign a emphyteutic lease, 50 years for buldings 001 and 002.
On Saturday october 3, 2015, we have celebrated the centenary of creation of the base « La Martinerie » in front of about 30 flags and more or less 200 members or guests.
With the support of a local communities, partners companies, of our association and the exceptional availability of our volontary to carry out (more than 20 000 of volonteer working hours) we can reasonably consider that the inauguration of our Memory House will be during the first semester of 2021.
